When I play I make certain to fully clear out the infection. Even Happy Valley, which you could have a truce with, can't grow its food without water. And so the food all withers and dies, both at AG center and the surrounding farms. It takes years, and equipment and people you just don't have. And by the end of the game, no matter what you do the researcher Rose will be dead.īut you can't just 'rebuild' a dam. The dam breaks and the topsoil washes away. But without the water provided by Highpool, that giant food won't last long. Given a machete and a good team, you can clear it out and at the worst, turn that good soil into a farm. Now when you go to AG center, you are amazed by all the giant food! It's clear the research is already complete. As it says in the loading screen, you just can't save everybody.Īs Highpool says very wisely, you need water to grow veg. They cleared out the Pod People (we don't hear any problems about that) but lost the water supply, so all those giant veg couldn't even be grown, and the topsoil was washed away when the dam inevitably broke. So I feel like, CANONICALLY, even if the BEST ending would logically be saving Highpool, Team Echo actually saved Ag Center. And at the start of Wastelands 3, it's all about famine AND drought. Rose turns on you if you have her in your party at the end, and I feel like this is a story tie-in - after all, nothing about the game needed any NPC to have robot parts and be controlled. However, back at base quite a lot of people bitch something chronic about how great Ag Center is when you get back if you don't save it, and how great their food is. Unfortunately if you save Ag Center, Rose, a major researcher, dies anyway, and several researchers from Ag Center will also get killed in the saving. Highpool's growing things, Happy Valley has employed (haha) the locals on its farm, and with some effort you can fix the slave thing going down, and the Rail Nomads are growing a few things themselves. While you're travelling around Arizona, you'll see that quite a few settlements are growing their own food. True, if you saved Highpool, people might have to tighten their belts. Then you can turn the Ag Center into a farm, aided by the water from the newly sympathetic Highpool, and hopefully get people back to studying the almost complete research. Clean it out thoroughly, decontaminate the surrounding farms, send word to base, and take all that food home - Well, SOMEBODY'S got to eat it, and you took down all the giant rabbits. If you head to AG Center to clean out the infection you'll see that most of the research is complete. Save the water supply and even if you can't grow giant vegetables, at least you can grow normal veg. Let's get this straight - I think the sensible decision is Highpool.
